To paraphrase Adam Savage, "The difference between making science and screwing around is writing it down." A bunch of scientists is a bunch of regular people who just so happen to have a better understanding of what is around us, that said it stands only to reasons that they be the most tempted ones to have fun whilst trying to test or warp their knowledge. Given the means few people pass up on the opportunity to simulate something that they have though of or always wanted to try out but never could.

Knowledge is power and ignorance is bliss, so why not commute from one to another while having fun? =)
